Connecting Generation Z to Jobs
In July 2021, TikTok launched a “TikTok Resume” pilot program to connect Gen Z to job postings from large companies such as Chipotle, Shopify, Target, and Alo Yoga. These participating companies offer a wide range of employment opportunities from entry level to more experienced positions.
The company said on its official website, “With an increase in creative content related to career and employment, TikTok believes there is an opportunity to further value the experience people experience with TikTok by improving the usability of the platform.” ”
The idea was inspired by the growing number of #CareerTok videos on the app offering tips and tricks.
“CareerTok is already a thriving application on the platform,” said Nick Tran, Global Marketing Manager, TikTok. “We can’t wait to see how the community adapts to TikTok CV and resumes to help with recruitment and job search. ,
According to the announcement, video resumes for job postings in the United States are currently accepted by the pilot program until July 31, 2021.
Users can access TikTok CV through #TikTokResumes on the app. A microsite is also available for those who wish to conduct their job search on a web browser. The user can then browse the available job vacancies.
Once the user has found a job to apply for, the next step is to create a video resume using TikTok. Users should remember to include the hashtag #TikTokResumes before submitting the application by clicking the “Add TikTok CV” button.
How to make Tiktok CV?
To create a Tiktok CV, first you need to have a public Tiktok account. It is essential for recruiters to review your video resume. Once you make sure that your account is active and in public setting, you can save your tiktok resume video.
You can choose the length of your TikTok CV video: 15s, 60s, or 3 minutes.
Like a traditional CV, a TikTok CV should start with your most relevant work experiences, then deepen your journey. Finally, end with a compelling call to action. Once you’ve finished describing why you’re the right fit for the job:
- reiterate your interest;
- Indicate your availability for an interview;
- Give the hiring manager your contact details.
When you’re happy with your video resume, add the hashtag, #TikTokResumes, and post it to your account.
Once you have created your TikTok CV:
- copy the link of your video and come back to tiktok resume jobs page;
- Click on the job offer you are applying for;
- Click on the “Submit Your TikTok CV” button at the bottom of the page;
- Fill out a form: first and last name, email address, link to TikTok CV and link to your LinkedIn profile (optional);
- To finish, click submit.
The job market right now is extremely competitive, especially with remote jobs and with all these different companies hiring and thousands of candidates applying. So this could be an opportunity to show that your communication skills go way beyond the page. Video CVs can be a unique way to stand out with employers, to express yourself – professionally and personally – in a way that doesn’t necessarily appear on paper.
It remains to be seen whether TikTok will continue with the program permanently.
