Is your For You page on TikTok starting to get dull and shabby? Users are surely getting bored of seeing the same things on you page over and over again! It is very likely that the suggested videos no longer seem relevant to them or no longer interest them… This training “Implementing Social Media Strategy” offers you several social media strategies. And in other good news, the platform is launching a new feature…
Like Explorer Tune on Instagram
TikTok has come a long way since its inception in September 2016. This mobile video sharing and social networking app really matters. 14.9 million monthly users and 19.3 million AUpotential dietS in France. And 7 million of them With 3.4 million people between the ages of 15 and 24 visiting TikTok every day (Source: Digimind).
Unlike social media, TikTok offers an endless stream of curated content that its algorithms say will interest you. A bit like Instagram’s Explore page after all. Both pages effectively serve the same purpose: suggesting new content to users based on the types of items they’ve viewed and liked in the past.
But unlike Explorer, which is accessible outside your main feed, the For You app has its homepage.
The hashtags and accounts you follow, the type of content you create, your location and language preferences, the videos you’ve interacted with in the past… TikTok’s algorithm takes almost everything into account. And it does it very well, great even for boring users!
Sometimes content is suggested over and over again in the For You page to the point that some videos become irrelevant to viewers. They also feel that their stream recommendations are no longer tailored to their interests. To fix this, TikTok has rolled out a new feature: TikTok Refresh.
As a new customer…
Think it’s the app’s drop-down refresh option? away from there!
this new device Somehow resets your stream to its original setting for you. In particular, when you activate the reset function, the application will display the content on the For You page as if you had just signed up for TikTok. The app’s recommendation system will then start showing more content based on new interactions.
In other words, you can have the feed displayed to you without personalized recommendations, as if the user were newly registered on TikTok. However, if you enable the new feature, your following feed, profile, and inbox will not be affected. Even though your For You stream will get a fresh start, the rest of your app experience will remain the same.
Based on subsequent interactions, TikTok again suggests videos. The reset function is built into the settings and does not affect other power supply settings. In addition to this new feature, TikTok users have the option to automatically filter videos from their For You feed with certain hashtags or words, or to mark videos with “not interested”.
Note that the new feature is a complement to its current content controls that allow you to shape your experience on the app.
For example, the “Not interested” option allows you to configure your profile so that when you encounter a video you don’t like. On the other hand, you can also choose to automatically filter content that uses specific phrases or hashtags.
A good option to increase the engagement rate
As of now this feature is still new so it will take some time to mature. But it is very helpful to train TikTok’s algorithm to fully influence user’s video stream.
For those who feel that their recommender system no longer really understands their interests, or for those whose interests have changed over the years, this new feature is just in time!
A great option to give users more freedom and to dictate their experience in the app, something other social apps probably can’t offer, or at least haven’t been able to do in the past. It is also a good option to integrate TikTok in your marketing strategy in 2023 and increase the engagement rate on the application.
