This is a war between different social networks: Twitter, TikTok and Instagram. The latter has decided to follow in its competitors’ footsteps by testing a new feature: Publishing is pinned to user profiles…
A new feature in the testing phase on Instagram
For quite some time, Instagram has allowed you to pin stories to the top of your profile to keep them ahead of their expiration date. But the app can do the same with posts to make sure they stand out in their own way.
She’s testing a feature that lets you pin specific posts to your profile above the photo grid. Still in the testing phase on Instagram, it is only visible on the platform for certain users.
The development of this feature was spotted last January by social media expert Alessandro Paluzzi,
If you use Twitter regularly, it may work the same way.” pin to your profile Since this allows you to pin a tweet to the top of your personal feed.
So when you use the three-dot menu next to a post Instagram will show the selected users a “Pin to your profile” option.
What can it be used for?
Similar to a video pinned on TikTok or a pinned tweet on Twitter, it highlights individual Instagram posts at the top of the profile to draw attention to the content. So there is no point in asking followers to scroll through previous posts to find it.
Currently, only stories can be pinned to a profile. While you can currently highlight a post in a story and then pin that story to your profile, this new feature will make that process a lot easier and simpler.
In fact, Instagram already allows users to create story highlights on top of the profile grid. It helps organize popular content such as Q&As, resources, key facts from events, and more.
Thus this new feature will extend this capability to a specific post on your profile. As you can imagine, this is an especially useful feature for creators who post frequently and multiple times to highlight particular content.
If this feature is rolled out beyond testing, pinned posts could include popular and influential content and become a new type of digital advertising space on Instagram. It can very well imagine influencers working with brands to create sponsored content.
Instagram has no shortage of ideas for highlighting posts
There is no shortage of Instagram ideas for highlighting posts and promoting certain features. Remember, last week it began testing removing the “recent” tab on hashtag pages for some users.
At the moment, three categories – Top, Recent and Reel – display hashtags when you search for a particular keyword in relation to previously published content. Now only “Top” and “Reels” tabs are available on hashtag pages for some users.
This change, although small, can have a huge impact on the way you use the application. Furthermore, it will highlight the publications that get the most engagement on the platform. The aim is to promote the reels further, and thus to compete with TikTok even more.
What do you think about all these changes? Would you be interested in a pinned post on Instagram to highlight your content?
