LinkedIn is looking to expand its emoji reactions by adding a new “funny” emoji that, as the name suggests, is a laughing emoji. Soon, we’ll all have another way to quickly respond to fun content.
A few days ago, app researcher Neema Ovji teased her followers with a preview of what the new funny reaction on LinkedIn would look like.
Although it is the largest professional network in the world, there is still room for humor and jokes. Surprisingly, on LinkedIn, the “laugh” response was one of the most requested updates. Last February, LinkedIn Chief Product Officer Tommy Cohen actually said as part of a bigger update that he and his team are working on:
“One of the main requests we received – a laughing emoji response. We hear you loud and clear and we agree. Humor is really serious business”
A petition has already been sent to LinkedIn to include this emoji reaction on the platform. Before this update, users could neither smile nor laugh on the app, which is a critical issue. Some describe the app as “cool” and unattractive compared to other social networks.

LinkedIn hasn’t announced a specific date for its official release and hasn’t added it to its Feedback Help page yet, but it may soon. It usually updates its help pages before releasing new features.

Emoji reactions enjoy great popularity outside of LinkedIn as well. In early May, WhatsApp officially rolled out this feature by introducing emoji reactions.
Similar to Facebook Messenger, this feature has a row of emojis just above the messages from WhatsApp users. For starters, only 6 generic reactions are available, but WhatsApp’s parent company Meta said that support for “all emoji and skin tones” will be added gradually.
