Drafts are available on Instagram Stories!

Instagram confirms that all users can now save draft stories in the same way that they can create drafts for regular posts.

In March 2021, Instagram announced that Instagram Stories users could create Stories and save them as drafts for later posting.

Instagram has long offered the ability to save posts as drafts, whereas Stories always had to be created at the time of posting. There are also tools to schedule your Instagram posts and stories.

But if a user starts creating a story on Instagram and wants to think more about it before posting, there is no way to save it for later posting. Nevertheless, the feature has been in high demand as an endorsement for Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram.

For brands in particular, they often want to post their updates at a time that is most relevant to their audience on Instagram Stories.

Alessandro Paluzzi shared these images of what the process would look like:

The draft format, as it were, is fairly straightforward, making it easy to create stories when you have the time, and publish them when you’re ready. Of course, you can already save them by downloading them to your device or through some apps. But these features aren’t native to Instagram, so they’re usually not as convenient in your creative flow to drive engagement on Facebook.

The feature is now available!

Instagram Stories Drafts are now available to everyone worldwide starting July 2021. Draft stories will be saved for seven days before they disappear. While you can download the story to your device and download it again, it will not preserve the stickers, music, and other effects you applied.

With your drafts in the app, you can view them as they would appear to users, plus you can use all of Instagram’s features in your draft creation process. So now it is unnecessary to download the story to the device and download it again at the most opportune time to optimize the scope of the story. Additionally, the new feature will allow users to view the story before it is published as viewers watch it.

How do I access draft stories on Instagram?

To find your drafts on Instagram Stories:

  • Go to Instagram app and swipe right on the screen.
  • Or tap the “Your Story” option in the top left corner of the screen
  • Select the ‘Story’ tab at the bottom of the screen.
  • Swipe up on the screen or tap the gallery icon in the lower left corner.
  • See Drafts section at the top. To see them all, scroll through the draft of the story or tap “Manage” in the upper right corner.
  • Tap a particular draft to edit it and share it on your story.

This feature can be especially useful for community managers and administrators who want to post at optimum times.

While this feature might sound quite intuitive, the introduction of Drafts on Instagram Stories would certainly be welcomed by most community managers and account admins. This will lighten their workflow and allow them to post stories at the optimum time.
